The Structure of the Csm

The Constitution of India is a set of principles that lays down the basic structure of the country. It defines the division of powers between the Central and State Governments, establishes fundamental rights and provides for a Federal system.

Chapter 20 deals with Liability of public servants while Chapter 21 lays down procedures for investigation of allegations against public servants.

Part IV – This part comprises Articles 22 to 58 which deal with various subjects including economic policy, social welfare schemes, education etc. Article 35 provides for special rights for scheduled castes and tribes. Article 41 guarantees equality before law irrespective of caste or religion. Articles 42-44 deal with property rights and intellectual property respectively while Article 45 provides for reservation in government jobs for women.

Article 49 empowers the Central Government to make laws prohibiting discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth etc.. In addition Articles 51-57 deal with a variety of social welfare schemes such as maternity benefits, unemployment allowance, medical aid etc.. Article 51A provides reservation in education institutions for disadvantaged sections of society while Articles 55-56 provide for protection from exploitation and unfair labour practices.

Part V – Contains Miscellaneous Provisions including Articles 59-62 which deal with procedure and conduct of Parliament, state constitutions, election to the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, amendment of the Constitution etc. Article 63 provides for the establishment of a Contingency Fund and Chapter 4 deals with procedure for amendment of the Constitution.
